WIDOW | All In my adventures of new Prowler ownership I have found some oddities in my Prowler. I bought a new head unit and a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth wiring harness. All color code on the Metra aftermarket harness matched my head unit. When I went to plug in the harness to the Prowler stereo harness in the dash, I see that the black plug and the greay plug dont match what I have. Lets say the pink for example doesnt match the order in my aftermarket harness. Do I need to move the pins in my aftermarket harness to match the factory stereo harness? Has anyone else had to do this and what are the color codes in the factory harness? I have the factory manuals and nothing really defines the factory grey or black plugs. Thanks for your help! |
padroo | This is from my 1999 Prowler shop manual. If you notice the big black arrow it tells you the color code for that particular wire and they are all listed. The example I marked it VT/BR, I believe it to be a VIOLET/BROWN wire. You can check this out and see how it compares to what is on your Prowler. I have never had any radio problems so I can't help you any more than what I can find in the book. Be careful looking at electrical connectors because if you hold them up next to the mating connector they will look backward.

robin | Both your problems you posted ..... Maybe related as I see in the diagrams padroo posted. That the ignition wires are involved in the harness due to the steering wheel controls. This is a tough one .May need to visit a car radio installation place to find some answers....keep us posted please. robin |
Richnew41 | Just in case as an FYI... It seems that many that have done stereo upgrades give up the steering wheel controls... Most aftermarket head units do not interface to the Prowler (Even those that state they are compatible)... That said, don't settle for the loss of the steering controls...There is 1 unit that works completely for $40 bucks... Its made by PAC Model: PAC SWI-RC steering wheel control. Mine is going on 2 years and works perfectly...

WIDOW | Thanks Richnew41! I had bought another make of steering wheel controls but will be getting the one you have used successfully. The prior owner of my Prowler did some strange things to the factory audio. My passenger seat amplifier is gone and I was expecting to find the wiring harness connectors right under the seat but they are gone. So he may have had the connectors cut and the amplifier/speaker wires connected togther then driven through an aftermarket head unit up front. Still investigating. I did find an awesome 1 DIN head unit with a motorized touch screen that slaps right in. It is Android based with GPS, Google Maps, WIFI, 3G etc. Loaded! When the screen retracts it looks like an older 90s stereo you wouldnt want to steal..awesome quote: Originally posted by Richnew41: Just in case as an FYI...It seems that many that have done stereo upgrades give up the steering wheel controls... WIDOW | Thanks for your response Padroo. I have the 4 manual set for the Prowler and late one night I found the same page you posted. Very helpful info! What I am also looking for is the pinouts to the connector to the amplifier under the passenger seat. I have yet to locate those wires. I think the prior owner had the connectors cut and wired end to end. Then removed the factory amplifier. Fun stuff! quote: Originally posted by padroo: This is from my 1999 Prowler shop manual.
